I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from my position as [Job Title]. My last working day will be [Date].
I have been offered an opportunity that aligns closely with my longer-term career goals, and after careful consideration I believe this is the right moment to take that step. This decision reflects the direction I want my career to take and is in no way a reflection of the company or the team.
Thank you for the opportunities and experience I have gained during my time here. I am committed to completing a full handover of my responsibilities before my final day and will support the transition in whatever way is most useful.

What a resignation letter actually needs
A resignation letter is not an essay. The shorter and plainer it is, the better it works. Five things have to be in it: the date you wrote it, a sentence stating that you are resigning and from which position, your last working day, one short line of thanks, and your signature with your full name. That is the entire document.
Of those five, the one people leave out most often is also the one that carries legal weight: your last working day. It is the date that settles where your final pay stops, how long your social security contributions run, and — if you are a foreign employee — the day your work permit ceases to be valid. Leave it out and you and your employer are working from different dates from day one.
What you leave out matters just as much. No long explanation, no account of what went wrong, no apology. This letter goes into your personnel file and may be read by people you will never meet, sometimes years later. Write the version you would still be comfortable with if it surfaced at your next job.
See the full letter structure, written for ThailandHow much notice you owe, and why it is not simply 30 days
Almost every guide written for Thailand says you must give 30 days' notice. Section 17 of the Labour Protection Act does not say that. It says notice given on or before a wage-payment date takes effect on the next one. The number 30 appears nowhere in the provision.
The difference is real money. If you are paid at the end of each month, the rule works out to at least about 30 days. If you are paid twice a month, your statutory notice is roughly 15 days. Paid weekly, it is about seven. A great many people stay a month longer than the law asks because they were told a number that is not in the statute.
It also means one day can cost you a month. Paid month-end, notice given on 26 August ends your employment on 30 September. Give the same notice on 1 September — after the 31 August pay date has passed — and your last working day becomes 31 October. Six days apart on the calendar, thirty-one days apart in effect.
Work out your own last working dayWhere the details you type actually go
Everything you enter in the form above is processed in your own browser. Your name, your job title, your company, your manager's name, and any reason you write yourself are never sent anywhere. This site has no server that receives them and no database that could store them.
That means we could not read your letter even if we wanted to. The Word and PDF files are generated on your machine and saved straight to it. Close the tab and all of it is gone at once. There is no account to create, no email address to hand over, and nothing to delete afterwards.

Can I resign by email, or does it have to be on paper?
Email is fine — Thai law does not prescribe a format. What matters is having proof of when you gave notice, and email does that better than paper. If your company has its own resignation form, submit both and keep the email as your record of the date.
What happens if I leave without giving notice?
It is not a criminal matter. Your employer can claim civil damages, but only for loss they can actually prove your departure caused. What they cannot do is deduct it from your final pay: Section 76 lists the permitted deductions exhaustively, and damages of this kind are not among them.
Is anything I type into this site stored?
No. It all runs in your browser, nothing is transmitted to a server, and the site has no database. Close the tab and it is gone. We collect anonymous statistics about which buttons get clicked — never any text you entered.
Do I have to give my real reason for leaving?
No. The law does not require a reason, and in practice one line about a personal decision or a new opportunity is enough. Writing out the real reason in detail, especially anything about internal problems, only creates a document that can come back to you later.
My manager refuses to sign or accept it. Now what?
Resignation takes effect on the employee's declaration alone — nobody has to approve it. The Supreme Court settled this in Deka 10161/2551. What you need is evidence of the date: email your manager and HR together, or have HR stamp a copy as received.
I am on a work permit. What changes when I resign?
Your work permit ends with the employment it was issued for, and the employer must notify the Department of Employment within 15 days. Your extension of stay is tied to that job, so it ends when Immigration is notified — there is no general grace period to rely on. Plan the visa step before you set your last working day, not after.
